Most people have a love hate relationship with Twitter.
You only have 140 characters to write what you want to say and oh, by the way, if you add a link and/or a picture you have even fewer characters to work with.
There are also odd unknown rules. For example, if you respond to a tweet by default it will start with someones handle, “@FFT_Official_“, however, only your followers and the followers of the person you respond to will see the message. If you put a period in front of it, “.@FFT_Official_“, it will then be discoverable by everyone on Twitter…Weird, I know.
Despite Twitter’s quirks it’s actually great when it comes to having ongoing conversations with your customers or networking with other companies. Not to long ago we participated in a Twitter chat with @OffPriceShow. It gave both companies exposure and was a great forum for fashion trucks to ask and answer questions. You can check out the tag #SourcingScoop to get an ideas for structuring you own chat.
I believe the key to Twitter is finding conversation to participate in. Also, make sure you’re not just having your Facebook and Twitter message forwarded because the active Twitter users will know that you’re not really engaged.
This brings me to the point of this post. One way to engage with your customers is to broadcast live from your location. I think it really is the future of social television.
Imagine, you’re at an event with your fashion truck and you want to get more people to come out. You can announce on all of your social media platforms that you are going to have a live feed on Twitter in 30 mins. Once your feed goes live you can show off your merchandise and encourage people in your area to come out. Best of all you will probably reach people who don’t know you yet.
So how does it work?

Apps For Broadcasting Live
Periscope // Currently, it’s only available for IOS // Free
This is my number one choice. The company was recently acquired by Twitter. Also, it’s the only app of its kind that will let users play back the video later. It will only be available for 24 hours and you have the option to make it available or not. Android users don’t worry a version for you is reportedly coming soon.

TwitCasting Live // Available for IOS and Android // Free

So How Does it Work?
I’ll use Periscope as an example:
- Download app
- Sign in with your Twitter info
- Once you’re in you click the middle icon; choose your settings, and then click the button that says “Start Broadcast”
- You can choose to share your Periscope broadcasts on Twitter by tapping the bird icon before you start broadcasting. A link will then be sent out on your Twitter. Also, if anyone is following you in the Periscope app they will get a notification that you have a live feed.
Note: Your Twitter followers don’t need the Periscope app to see your feed. If you search #periscope you may find some live feeds to check out.
Well, I hope this post inspires you to do something different!
